WIRELESS BROADBAND ACCESS NOW AVAILABLE IN DEBAK

DEBAK : Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Alfred Jabu anak Numpang yesterday launched the deConnexion Free Wireless Broadband Access Project here yesterday. The project is implemented by the Danawa-Sacofa JV company which was set up to help the nation achieve its goals of a knowledge-based economy and k-society. Danawa Resources provides last-mile wireless technology for household connectivity while Sacofa Sdn. bhd. provides the infrastructure, such as fibre-optics lines and signal station. Danawa-Sacofa JV spearheads the project of Sarawak to achieve the targeted 50% household broadband penetration by 2009 from the present 1.3%.
"This is a free wireless broadband project, which the government led by Barisan Nasional, is giving as a present to the people." said Jabu at the launching.
The project focuses on bringing internet connectivity throughout the State and bringing the digital divide between rural and urban areas by bringing broadband access to the rural and underserved areas in the State. The deConnexion broadband service in Debak is an extension of the project which in Betong in July this year.
"Danawa-Sacofa will continue to bring the deConnexion broadband access to other areas in Sarawak in an effort to bridge the digital divide," says Ir Abang Jemat Abang Bujang, Managing Director / CEO of Sacofa Sdn. Bhd and Chairman of Lembaga Amanah Kebajikan Islam Debak (LAKID).
The free deConnexion service is now available for SK Datuk Bandar Debak and all the nearby government offices. Residents, especially students are connected to the rest of the world via world wide web. For example, student can now connect to state and national libraries, and the world's cyber knowledge web to enjoy the plethora of educational materials and references which were previously not available to them. Jabu was also there to officiate the "Perkampungan Hadhari" programme. The "Perkampungan Hadhari" concept was introduced under Ninth Malaysia Plan. The programme aims to encourage the appreciation of ten principles of "Pendekatan Islam Hadhari" through various community-driven activities such as gotong-royong, career counseling, guidance for entrepreneurs and agricultural businesses, improvement of quality of life and environmental cleanliness.
Local leaders are encouraged to participate in such activities and to meet the people to implement these activities related to the ten principles of "Pendekatan Islam Hadhari."
