Published in New Straits Times, 10 May 2008

BY the end of this year, Kuching, Sibu, Miri and Bintulu wil be fully installed with WiFi base stations.

Danawa Resources Sdn Bhd, which holds the service provider license for Sarawak and Sabah, has already set up its main core data centre in Kuching and the regional data centres in Sibu and Miri.

Replying to a question from Vincent Goh Chung Siong (BN-Pelawan), Assistant Minister of Infrastructure Development and Communications, Lee Kim Shin, said the total of 70 WiFi base stations had been planned for Kuching while Sibu would have 25.

As for Miri, Lee said 60 to 70 per cent of the city had been covered with the installation of 40 base stations. Another 10 stations would be installed by the end of this year. Lee said 25 stations would also be put up in Bintulu.

He also said that the company was implementing its wireless broadband services to rural areas in Sarawak as part of its efforts to bridge the digital divide between rural and urban areas.
